Piercings & Sizing Guide
Each area of the ear or body requires a specific type of jewelry for optimal comfort and balance.
For example:
- Antitragus, Forward Helix, Lobe, Helix, Tragus, Flat, Conch, and Conch Inner: stud piercings (threaded closure and flat back) or hoops.
- Daith & Septum: specific hoops.
- Navel: curved barbell or “floating” design.
- Nose piercing: both threaded studs and hoops can be worn, depending on your anatomy and style preference.
Each MADAJ piece specifies its compatible placements directly on the product page, so you can choose with confidence.
Each MADAJ product page lists the recommended dimensions for its category.
If your piercing is freshly healed or tends to swell slightly, opt for a slightly longer post.
For healed piercings, a closer fit offers a more minimalist, elegant appearance.
You can always contact us for personalized advice.
we’ll help you find the ideal size for your anatomy.
MADAJ jewelry is suitable for both new and healed piercings, as each piece is made to order in solid 18k hypoallergenic gold and set with natural gemstones.
Our gold is nickel-free and biocompatible, making it a perfect option for initial piercings.
However, we always recommend confirming with your professional piercer before changing or inserting new jewelry in a fresh piercing.
All MADAJ stud piercings feature a threaded closure for maximum security and durability.
This system ensures that the post and front motif are firmly connected, ideal for fine jewelry you’ll wear daily with confidence.
A threaded stud screws securely into the back post, unlike traditional push-fit or butterfly-back earrings.
This closure is ideal for piercings worn continuously, offering both long-term comfort and security.
Traditional “friction backs” can loosen over time, whereas threaded closures stay perfectly secure, even during sleep or daily activities.
Additionally, the flat back of MADAJ studs provides 24/7 comfort, preventing irritation or pressure behind the ear.
Threaded studs must be gently screwed into the post.
- Insert the post from the back of the ear.
- Align the thread of the front motif with the post.
- Rotate slowly until fully secured — without forcing.
- Ensure the front is straight and snug, but not overtightened.
If you’re not familiar with threaded jewelry, we recommend having a professional piercer assist during the first insertion.
The term "gauge" refers to the thickness of a stud post or hoop post. In gauge measurements, a higher number signifies a slimmer piece. Below are the gauge sizes for our range of products:
- Threaded studs, Nose piercing, Daith & Septum piercings use 16 gauge.
- For hoop piercings, we use 20 gauge.
- All our navel jewelry pieces are crafted in 14 gauge.
To help you understand these sizes better, here's a conversion chart:
- 20 gauge = 0.8mm
- 19 gauge = 0.9mm
- 18 gauge = 1.0mm
- 16 gauge = 1.2mm
- 14 gauge = 1.6mm
Should you have any inquiries about gauge sizes or need specific information about any piece, feel free to reach out to us at contact@madajpiercings.com.
All MADAJ piercing is sold individually, unless otherwise indicated. To buy a pair, just add two of the items to your cart.

Gifting
For most piercings, a post length of 6.5 mm works well with threaded studs. However, if you have a specific piercing location in mind, here are our recommended post sizes:
- High or Stacked Lobe: 6.5 mm
- Helix: 6.5 mm
- Conch: 6.5 mm
- Tash Rook: 5 mm
- Tragus: 6.5 mm
- Forward Helix: 5 mm
- Nostril: 6.5 mm
- Earlobe, piercing 1 and 2: 6.5 mm
- Earlobe, piercing 3 and up: 5 mm
If you're looking to purchase a hoop for a specific piercing location, we suggest the following diameter sizes:
- Earlobe, piercing 1 and 2: 8mm
- Earlobe, piercing 3 and up: 6.5mm
- Helix: 8mm
- Conch: 11mm
- Tragus: 6.5mm
- Forward Helix: 5mm
Hoops and traditional studs make great gifts as they require less guesswork when it comes to size. For Earlobe piercings, traditional earrings generally fit most wearers. As for hoops, an 8mm size usually works well for most piercings.
Traditional Ear Studs are the most common type of earring. They are great gifts because they come in one size that fits most Lobe piercings. To wear them, simply insert the earring into your piercing and secure it with a traditional butterfly backing.
Threaded Studs consist of a long, tube-like earring post and a frontal piece that screws on and off the post. These earrings offer versatility as the frontal can be attached to different length posts. We recommend purchasing threaded studs as gifts only for cartilage piercings.
